The Volunteer Program of Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis |

is open to individuals, 18 years of age and older, who have
- A strong commitment to ending violence against women and children in all its forms
- A clear understanding of oppression, abuse and violence
- Successfully completed WIC Volunteer Training and Orientation
- A time availability of 4 hours per week, and can make a six month to one year commitment
- An understanding of the team model approach and working in a collaborative environment
- A clear understanding of the security requirements of the shelter environment and the necessity of adhering to confidentiality guidelines

Volunteer Activities include the following:
Crisis Line Volunteers - this service is housed in Marianne's Place Shelter, and provides 24 hour crisis intervention, support, advocacy and referral services to residents throughout Wellington County. The Crisis Line provides access to all of the programs of the agency including the Shelter, the Sexual Assault Centre Program, the Rural Women's Support Program, and the Transition Support Program
Child Support Volunteers: Assist in providing a safe, fun, violence-free experience for children ages infant to teen. Provides childcare for women using our services during groups and appointments.
Group Facilitator Volunteers: Assists in facilitating groups to women using our services. Participates in the preparation of group topics and activities.
Administrative Support Volunteers: Assist with receiving, screening and directing incoming calls, answers general inquiries, performs clerical and administrative duties at the Shelter, the main administrative office or any of the program area offices.
Property and Maintenance Volunteers: Assist with the inside and outside upkeep of the shelter and program area offices.
Organize the pickup and distribution of donations.
Fundraising Volunteer: Participate in the organization of agency fundraising events at the committee level and in the events themselves.
Board Volunteers: Participate in the governance of the agency as a whole with overall responsibility for the financial and policy making decisions of the agency. May also participate on committees of the board and / or ad hoc committees for specific projects.
Volunteer Drivers: Assist women using our services by driving them to appointments and / or providing emergency transportation to other Shelters for relocation or safety purposes.
Accompaniment Volunteers: Provide support and advocacy to women using agency services. Accompany women to hospital, court, police station or to other appointments.
Individual Support Workers: Provide weekly phone support to women using the rural support program services.
Public Education Volunteers: Assist the public educator in preparation and delivery of materials and presentations to community members. Assist with preparation and planning of agency political events such as Take Back the Night and December 6 Vigil.

VOLUNTEER MEMBERSHIP TRAINING:
- offered three time per year, in the spring, fall and mid-winter
- prospective volunteers must submit an application and will be contacted for a pre- screening interview
