| The Rural Women's Shelter Program
The Rural Women’s Support Program provides free support services to women and their children living in Wellington County and connects women to Marianne’s Place Shelter. Individual counselling and groups are offered to women who have been or are in an abusive relationship and to women who are survivors of childhood sexual abuse, sexual assault or harassment. Transportation may be arranged if needed as well as accompaniment to police, court, hospital, lawyer’s appointments and the shelter. Advocacy and referrals to other community agencies are provided as well as housing, legal, financial and custody information. Public education is available upon request.
The county offices are located in Erin, Fergus, Mount Forest, Palmerston and Rockwood and can be accessed directly or through the crisis line.

Services: (free)
- Immediate telephone support and information through our 24 hour crisis lines
- Individual counselling and support
- Group counselling
- Connection to Marianne's Place
- Safety planning
- Transportation / accompaniment to court, police, hospital and shelter
- Transportation / childcare may be provided if needed during counselling or group
- Advocacy, support with criminal injuries compensation, victim impact statements
- Education and training on all issues related to women abuse or sexual violence
- Information and referrals to other community agencies and support if requested
- Information concerning sexual assault, incest, domestic violence, medical and legal procedures and options
- Client library and resource materials available
- Practical assistance
- Sexual harrassment support and information
- Support for family and friends of survivors

Abuse is when someone......
- Constantly puts you down
- Harasses you
- Makes it hard for you to leave the house
- Doesn't allow you to have your own friends
- Makes you feel stupid, crazy, worthless
- Threatens violence
- Beats you
- Makes you feel afraid for yourself and your children
- Emotionally tears you apart
- Makes you think you are never right, no matter what you do
- Makes you feel guilty or ashamed of what is happening

Different kinds of abuse:
- Physical - includes hitting, pushing, pinching or kicking you, pulling your hair
- Emotional - includes calling you names, putting you down, threatening you, your children or your pets
- Sexual - forcing you to have sex or to perform sexual acts against your wishes
- Financial - giving you no choice about family money, not giving you enough for groceries, etc
