Marianne's Place is a safe alternative to a violent, abusive home. We offer temporary shelter for women and their children experiencing physical, emotional, sexual, verbal and/or financial abuse. The location of the shelter is confidential and we support women in maintaining their safety while staying at Marianne’s Place.

Marianne's Place strives to be accessible to all women. We welcome women with disabilities, immigrant and refugee women and lesbians. When possible, women and their children are provided with private bedrooms, while it is necessary to share common spaces such as living rooms, bathrooms, kitchen, recreation and play areas.

If you are not sure if you are experiencing violence or abuse, ask yourself if someone:
  • Constantly puts you down
  • Harasses you
  • Makes it hard for you to leave the house
  • Does not allow you to have your own friends
  • Makes you feel stupid, crazy, worthless
  • Threatens violence
  • Pushes, slaps or kicks you
  • Makes you feel afraid for yourself, your children and/or pets/animals
  • Makes you think you are always wrong, whatever you do
  • Makes you feel guilty or ashamed of yourself, your behaviour or what is happening between you
  • Forces you to participate in sexual acts when you do not want to
  • Denies you access to money and/or basic needs such as shelter, food, clothing

Marianne's Place is 28 bed emergency shelter for women and children leaving violence. We offer temporary shelter for women and their children experiencing physical, emotional, sexual, verbal and/or financial abuse. The location of the shelter is confidential and we support women in maintaining their safety while staying at Marianne’s Place.

Marianne's Place strives to be accessible to all women. We provide service from a Feminist, Anti-Racism/Anti-Oppression framework. We welcome women with disabilities, immigrant and refugee women, lesbians and older women. When possible, women and their children are provided with private bedrooms, while it is necessary to share common spaces such as living rooms, bathrooms, kitchen, recreation and play areas. Women and children live communally, sharing in all of the responsibilities of the house including cooking and cleaning.
