Welcome to Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis

What do our volunteers do?

Your talents, skills and experience can provide a valuable contribution to Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis.

Your time, energy, skills, experience make a significant difference to the lives of the women and children we support. Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis needs volunteers for many things:

  • Listening and being supportive on our Crisis Line
  • Playing with children at Marianne’s Place, our shelter
  • Co-facilitating support groups
  • Organizing special events and fundraisers (like Take Back the Night and our Annual Auction)
  • Accompanying or driving women to court or visits to the lawyer or doctor
  • Gardening and helping to maintain our shelter and other centres
  • Supporting our offices behind the scenes with administration tasks, answering the phones or preparing mailouts
  • Presenting workshops on bullying prevention or healthy relationships in schools

Each volunteer receives extensive training about the issue of abuse and on-the-job training for their specific role. When you volunteer with G-W WIC you will have the opportunity to become involved in working towards change within our community. Many of our volunteers find that their involvement helps to strengthen their understanding of issues of violence against women.

As a volunteer, you will connect with others who come from a range of ages, cultures, professions, and backgrounds. We welcome volunteers who are willing to share their talents and skills with us, and who reflect the diversity of our community. Together we can celebrate women’s strength and the power to create positive change.
