Crisis Line

Each year, our crisis line receives over 4,000 calls --- for support, assistance and information. This volunteer position contributes to providing 24-hour crisis intervention, support, advocacy and referral services to residents throughout Wellington County. The Crisis Line provides access to all programs of Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis, including the Shelter, the Sexual Assault Centre, the Rural Women’s Support Program and the Transitional and Housing Support Program. This position is available to women volunteers only.

Children and Youth Support

Assist in providing a safe, fun, violence-free experience for children living in the shelter, ages infancy to teen. This program provides childcare for women using our services during groups and appointments. These volunteers maintain a safe, violence-free environment and assist staff in providing age-appropriate activities. This position is available to women volunteers only.

Group Co-Facilitators

Assist in facilitating groups to women using our services. Co-Facilitators participate in the preparation and delivery of group topics and activities. This position is available to women volunteers only.

Public Education

Assist our Public Educator in preparation and delivery of presentations, special events and materials, from a feminist framework, to community members within Wellington County. This position is open to men and women.

Special Events

Public Education Volunteers assist with preparation and planning of agency political events such as Take Back The Night and December 6 Vigil; with special events related to public education and with providing coverage at information tables at community events, which involves sharing information and answering questions about G-W WIC and issues related to Violence against Women.
This volunteer position is open to women and men.

Administration Support

Work behind the scenes while gaining valuable experience in our offices. Answering our office phone, answering general inquiries, and assisting with clerical and administrative tasks in our various program areas are among the various tasks associated with this position.

Fundraising Volunteers

Join our Fundraising Committee and take part in organizing and participating in our fundraising events (like our Annual Dinner and Auction). Many of our services rely on fundraising to function. This position is open to women and men.

 Property and Maintenance Volunteers

Keep our shelter and grounds looking beautiful! Assist with the inside and outside upkeep of the shelter and program properties. These volunteers can also help pick up and transport donations.
This position is open to women and men.

Volunteer Drivers

Help women using our services by driving them to appointments and/or providing emergency transportation to other shelters for relocation or safety reasons.

Accompaniment Volunteers

Provide support and advocacy to women using G-W WIC program services. Accompany women to hospital, court, police station or other appointments.

Board Volunteers

Participate in the governance of Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis, and the overall responsibility for the financial and policy making decisions of the agency. Participate on committees of the board and/or ad hoc committees for specific projects.
