Volunteering at Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis
Individuals 18 years of age and older are encouraged to complete a volunteer application form.
Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis recruits volunteers with:
- A strong commitment to ending violence against women and children in all its forms
- A commitment to working within a feminist, anti-racist/anti oppression framework
- A commitment to working within a framework of gender-based feminist analysis of violence against women and children and hold an understanding of oppression, abuse and violence
- A commitment to women’s right to live free of violence
- A desire to work to eliminate barriers that prevent women’s equality and toward the equitable inclusion of all women
- A clear commitment to supporting women’s choices and respecting women for who they are
- A desire to be involved with an organization committed to honouring diversity
Requirements:
- A willingness to successfully complete the Volunteer Training and Orientation Program
- A time commitment of 4 hours per week and a minimum six month to one year volunteer commitment
- An understanding of the team model approach and working in a collaborative environment
- A clear understanding of the security requirements of the shelter and program environments and following confidentiality policies and guidelines
We encourage women who have had support through Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis to consider volunteering with us. We do ask that you wait one year, following the completion of your receiving support, before applying to volunteer.
How do I become a volunteer?
Volunteer Training is offered twice a year, in the spring and fall.
