About Us
For over 30 years
Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis works to end violence against all women and children. In 1977, a small group of women started a crisis phone line for survivors of sexual assault in a tiny basement room in Guelph. Today, Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis serves an area with a population of approximately 187,000. We offer shelter, support and advocacy, as well as a 24-hour phone line. We support women survivors of emotional, physical, sexual and financial abuse in Guelph and Wellington County.
Reaching out to all women
Each year, Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis offers support to over 1500 women and children and answers over 4500 crisis calls. Women who contact us come from many walks of life, socio-economic classes and cultural backgrounds. All of them have experienced some form of abuse, whether it be physical, emotional, sexual or financial. Some women have experienced stalking, sexual harassment, and online harassment, while others are survivors of abusive relationships, childhood sexual abuse, sexual torture and/or human trafficking. We provide counselling and group support on these as well as a variety of other issues that women encounter. We support all women, including transgender women. We also support family and friends of survivors of abuse and we do presentations to educate the community.
We need your support
Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis relies heavily on the support of the community for grants, foundations, donations, and fundraising to maintain its current level of services. We work to benefit our community through the prevention of violence and supporting survivors of violence. Please visit our How to Donate page to find out how you can help.
