The Colour of Violence 2nd Annual Panel Discussion on Women of Colour and Violence in Canada In Recognition of International Women's Week Refreshments provided, All are Welcome Karon:ta is from Tyendinaga Territory and the Turtle Clan. She works with the Anishnabeg Outreach Centre in Guelph. Zehra Haffajee is the Public Educator at Sexual Assault and Violence Intervention Services (SAVIS) in Halton. She is also a past Chairperson of the Federation of Muslim Women. Joy C. Sioson is the Chairperson of the Philippine Women's Centre of Ontario. The speakers will talk about the increasing levels of violence against women of colour and indigenous women in Canada-- in light of the hundreds of indigenous women who have gone missing in Canada over the last 20 years, the death of Aqsa Parvez of Toronto at the end of 2007, and the exploitation of Filipino women under the Live-In-Caregiver Program. The discussion will be moderated by Zhaleh Afshar, Public Educator at Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis. Presented by The Women of Colour Collective and Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis.
